Yesterday, Stevie made his debut in the Champions League. PSV played CSKA Moscow in their last group match and needed a good result to make it to the knock-out phase. Stevie started as a substitute. At half time there the score on the board was 0-0. In the ’76 minute Ignashevich sends PSV goalie Zoet into the wrong corner and scores from the penalty spot. Just two minutes later Stevie’s team mate De Jong made the first goal for PSV, 1-1. In the ’85 minute Stevie makes his debut when he’s replacing Pereiro for the last couple of minutes of the match. But those last minutes meant a lot because just one minute later Pröpper makes the 2-1 for PSV from an assist of Stevie! This assist makes Stevie with his 18 years and 61 days old the youngest player to give an assist (or score) in this Champions League season!
‘The stadium atmosphere was amazing. My Champions League debut in a full Philips stadium. It was great. I started the match as substitute but kept all possible options in mind. After 85 I got in and of course the nerves were there. But they disappeared when I started playing. Quickly after I came on the pitch there was this action and the second goal was scored by Pereiro. What an amazing feeling. Of course we had a little celebration in the dressing room. It’s a great achievement for PSV to make it to the knock-out phase and I’m very happy that I could contribute to that!’
